The Problem
An award-winning design agency based in the UK was preparing to launch a new Laravel-powered application offering travel and event itineraries. Interest in the new application was buzzing, but with no way to predict traffic patterns and volumes, the agency wanted to ensure their new hosting setup would scale to meet demand. The focus was on user experience, with quality, performance, and reliability as priorities over cost.
The agency’s experience was with traditional hosting providers.shared or virtual private server (VPS) type setups providing “black box” hosting with little or no direct server access and control. The agency did not want to be locked into a proprietary solution for the new app and favoured using a custom solution on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The Work Logicata Did
To address these needs, Logicata designed a scalable hosting infrastructure on AWS. The process involved several key steps:
Design and Build
Logicata crafted a rock-solid, scalable hosting infrastructure tailored to the specific needs of PHP / Laravel and the requirements of the app), including:
- Separate web and database tiers to facilitate future horizontal and vertical scaling options when/if required whilst keeping initial costs to a minimum;
- An automated build process to allow the app developers to easily deploy application updates without changing the way they work.
- Alignment to AWS using best practices around security and maintaining isolated Staging and Production Workloads.
- AWS security features to lock down the entire stack and reduce attack vectors.
- A framework that allows Logicata to monitor and review security, performance, and capacity continuously.
Migrate
After completing the build and working closely with the agency’s team to ensure everything worked as expected, Logicata migrated all application data to the new AWS environment and managed the go-live process.

Delivering all of the benefits of a ‘black box’ solution with none of the downsides, Logicata takes care of:
